COLCHESTER HARRIERS ATHLETIC CLUB
As the track & field season for 2008 is fast approaching, the young athletes at Colchester Harriers have a lot to look forward to, as a very busy summer awaits them.
The dates and venues have started to be released, so keep looking at the web site and notice boards, as when they are ready they will be posted on there, along with the relevant travel information. There will be coaches provided, to some of the venues, but competitions, will obviously entail having to provide your own means of transport, so please keep an eye on the notice board and web page, also please talk to your coach.
Michael Holden U20 and Catherine Holdsworth U23 have both had international call ups to Paris in March, for the Great Britain team, at the Combined Events Indoor international, against Spain, France & the Czech Republic. Michael is taking part in a two-day heptathlon and Catherine one-day pentathlon, and if you would like to talk to them about their experiences abroad, I’m sure they would love to talk to you.
Kaneesha Johnson has recently picked up the Colchester Sports Personality of the Year award, in the U18 age group and Louis Persent received a certificate of commendation.
Kaneesha is currently top of the UKA rankings for U17 Women’s indoor Pentathlon and recently won the SEAA Indoor Pentathlon as well as getting her recognised by UKA’s Combined Events coaches and along with Michael Holden, has been invited to the National squad weekends.
Louis Persent is on the UKA talent identification squad of athletes and is receiving help, such as physiotherapy, from specialists at Lea Valley.
So congratulations to both of them.
The club also had immense success at the Essex Indoor Champs, with medals for an array of athletes, including Bethanie Moore, Jade Morgan, Nicola Gaisford, Vicki Wheatland and Kelly Sutton, to prove the development and potential within the club.
If you have any questions that you would like to ask me please feel free and I will try and help.
Good luck everyone for the 2008 and lets hope for lots of new personal bests.
