My Thoughts of 2007
Christmas always begins for me at the Hamilton Lodge Carol Concert, everyone joins in with the festive singing and then we all enjoy mince pies, sausage rolls, coffee or mulled wine afterwards. This year we were able to be in the new building, which is very nice.
Looking back on this Anniversary year I have tried to pick out a few memorable events we have joined in with.
Starting in January 2007 a group of about 30 went to the Mercury Theatre pantomime, this is always a fun evening enjoyed by all ages, anyone is welcome to join us, I have to know definitely though in June when the booking has to be made.
In July 28 tents and caravans descended at Tangham Forest Campsite for a weekend of cycling, running, eating, drinking and generally having a good time.
To celebrate our 25th Anniversary we went to Lawshall for another camping weekend, where quite a few non campers arrived to join us for a trail race followed by a hog roast on the Saturday evening, it was great to see a few of the old faces who came back to join in with us.
Les and Sue arranged a weekend at Ashhill over the August bank holiday, where they organised a trail race and cycle ride. All in all we had a great social time together at each event.
In September there was a barbeque and fun races and games at the track for our Junior members, also some took part in a treasure hunt through the town, fortunately we were blessed with good weather for most of our activities is year.
As I write this I am getting ready to buy the food for the children’s Christmas party at the track, it’s great to see them all tuck in and enjoy themselves.
Another year of Colchester Harriers is nearing it’s end but we can look back on the social side with pride that there is lots for each and every member to join in and enjoy themselves socially as well as enjoying their sport.
