Colchester Harriers Athletic Club

 

 

Minutes of meeting held at The Arena Club, Circular Road, Colchester, Essex, at 8.15pm on Tuesday 19 February 2008.

 

Members present.

 

Rachel ABBOTT, Bridget KING, Karen WHEAT, Linda GARNHAM, Lyn HOLDEN, Roy MOORE, Philip KNIGHTS, Rob EARLE, Dave LACY, Margaret WILLIAMS, Lance WILLIAMS, Dominic KING, and Peter WEST.

 

Apologies for absence.

 

Helen HOLDSWORTH, Family 21st Birthday Celebrations, Daniel THOMPSON, work commitments.

 

Minutes of 15 January 2008, meeting and matters arising.

 

Linda reported that First Aid Kit and Egg and Spoon game had now been received from Tesco’s. (Vouchers)

Lance reported that John HYLAND had spoken to him with regards to the Boxing Day Runners v Riders Race. Nearer time meeting to be arranged with Colchester Rovers to see if race can be made more equal without jeopardising safety.

No other matters arose, minutes approved.

 

Chairpersons Report

 

No specific matters to report.

 

Secretary’s Report.

 

Karen reported on the following.

  1. Forms for open meeting at Havering Mayesbrook and Chelmsford, now on Club Website.
  2. Essex County Minutes of 03/12/07 arrived today, well out of date and of no use to our Club. Committee expressed disappointment at their late arrival.
  3. Karen requested dates of Training at weekends during next autumn – re booking of Track.
  4. Track booked for relays on 6/04/08.
  5. Karen raised concerns regarding the closure of Mersea Road and access to the Track   for the relays. Matter discussed and to be raised again at next meeting. Details if road still closed nearer date to be put on Website.

 

Treasurers Report.

 

Bridget gave details of Club finances, in good order. All bills paid.

 

Membership Secretary

 

Lyn reported that 263 members had paid up to today’s date. Reminder letters had been sent out. It was noticed that junior members had now reaching saturation point Committee must in near future consider additional groups with other Coaches.

 

Team Managers report

 

Peter reported on the following:-

  1. Essex 20 mile champs: - men – Gold team (Shaun Ketteridge, Michael Bond and Peter West.) Peter 2nd vet over 40, Paul Helliwell3rd vet over 40. Michael Bond 2nd vet over 50. Lance had received 2 emails congratulating the Club on the course and organisation on the day.
  2. Essex ½ marathon. 1st men’s team. M Bond 3rd vet over 50.
  3. Paul Spowage silver medal Eastern Vets Cross Country. Women 4th team overall.

Forthcoming Champs, Essex 10 18/05/08 and Essex 10k North Weald in July. Dates and venues to be confirmed.

Peter informed the meeting that he had spoken to Ian Vickery re Composite Team, final arrangements being made, vest colours to be same as NJL. Committee decided that for 1st year vests would be purchased by the Club and distributed on day loan and returned for washing.

Kit to be organised by Margaret.

 

Junior Rep/Women’s League

 

Linda has now got all fixtures for this season. (To be put on website) Venues have not yet been announced. Coaches now being booked by Lyn.

 

Races

 

Debrief 20 mile Champs. All went well No injuries reported. Lance received 3 incidents of road rage. No details obtained, therefore no further action. Lance received a complaint from member of staff at Hamilton Lodge regarding runners using parts of the grounds as a toilet in view of residents. Apologies given.

Relays in April. Track has been booked. Closure of Mersea road may cause a problem with traffic. To look at situation nearer date and put details on Website. Mel Smith arranging course.

 

Club Mark

 

No further information available. Lance and Dominic attending a Seminar at Newmarket on Saturday 1st March 2008.

 

Social

 

Margaret reported that Camping weekend at Rendlesham arranged, 23 families already booked. August BH Camping weekend booked, Les and Sue Dunham taking bookings.

 

Coaching

 

Coaches meeting to be arranged after Easter. It was noted that Track Safety had improved.

 

Any other business

 

Linda. Child Protection Policy to be undated. Rachel to look at Policy and report back.

 

Roy. Newsletter now being compiled, hopefully published within 2 weeks.

 

Dave. Ken Baker  now chairman of Colchester Rovers.

 

Dominic. Received info that lights on track to be up and running at end of March. Just in time for SUMMER TIME.

 

There being no other business the meeting closed at 9.40pm.
